Times of Growth

Jeremiah 17:5-8 Tells us that we should trust in our Lord even during times of draught.     In those versus Jeremiah shows us that we will be like trees planted near streams of water that offers us relief even when the rain does not fall.     When taking agronomy at school, they taught us that when a crop is planted in the spring that experiences draught, this consequently causes the plants to grow roots that go down deep until they reach moisture in the soil.  Contrary to this, when there is a wet spring, newly planted crops grow shallow roots in the soil.  They don’t need to grow deep since the moisture in the soil is close to the surface.  Later in the season when the rains are more scarce, those plants that have deep roots are more resistant to the dry climate since they have roots that are deep and are at the depth that is less affected by the drought at that time.  I have seen that take place in watching my crops that w...

Bronze Bunny

Today  my daughter Abby is completing her senior year at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota.  She is a double major, Art and English.   Recently Abby had as a part of one of her art projects made a bronze cast of a rabbit.  She has always loved this little creature even to the point of having one as a pet.  This little hopper would be let out of her cage at times in Abby's bedroom and the rabbit, (Collette) would hop around and she would play with our Tuxedo cat, (Toby).  Toby didn't quite know what to think of this strange looking cat at first.  Over a period of time though, Toby would reach through the wire mesh and play with Collette with her paws.  Collette would respond in bunny fashion by sniffing Toby's paws and jumping and running back and forth in her cage with bunny excitement.  When Abby let Collette out of her cage, she would right away look for Toby to play with.  At times though, being a cat, Toby thought her hig...

Choosing God's Will Over Mine

Today my thoughts go back to the time that I was interviewing for principal jobs in Minnesota and Wisconsin.   I had previously been a Coordinator for an Alternative Program that I started in New Ulm, Minnesota.  We served 6 school districts, and consequently our student population grew very rapidly from the start.  While administrating at our new school, I was working on my principal’s licensure through Winona State University at the same time.  I traveled to Rochester, Minnesota once a week after completing a full day at the Alternative Program in New Ulm.  The drive was long, and it seemed even longer when returning back from my class.  It took about 3 hours to drive to class, take a 3 1/2-hour class and then return for another 3-hour drive when heading home.   In Minnesota one had to complete their master’s degree first before starting another 2 years of administration classes in preparing for being a public-sch...
